What to do on a Rainy Day

Yesterday, the kids and I went to COSI. Our goals were to see Grossology and Titanic. Well, we missed Grossology...by one day. Seriously. Big disappointment.

But, we did get to see the Titanic exhibit! It was costly, but very good. We were given a "boarding pass" at the entrance with a real person's name and information like where they were from, where they were going, who they traveled with and what class they were in. At the end, you got to see whether your person was saved or lost. We all had second class tickets and all were saved except Brandon's.

Along with the artifacts, there were replicas and actors to help you get a real feel of what the ship was like (extravagant!) and what happened that fateful night. Some of the interesting things we learned:
1). The cost of a first-class ticket would be around $40,000 today.
2). The water that night was around 28 degrees. Salt water can actually be colder than freezing. (We knew this, but hearing it and realizing people were in that water had a big impact).
3). It wasn't only the poor in Third class. There were large, middle-class families looking to travel as inexpensively as possible (tickets were quivalent to around $700 per person for third class).
4). That if only four compartments had flooded, the boat would not have sank, but five were flooded. This may not have happened if they had not tried to turn the ship and just hit the iceberg head-on.

Afterward, we roamed :) Gadgets is a must for us. We simply do not visit COSI without going!

They took turns pulling themselves up with pulleys.
Let their hair get blown around:

Tried to shock each other:
We shot balls in the air at a maze:
And finally, got soaking wet in Oceans ;)
Very fun day! We'll be going back soon to catch the Whales and Dolphins movie :)

  1. We love Gadgets too! COSI is on my list for one more visit before the summer crowds, hope we get there!
