Brandon had the opportunity to participate in a flag ceremony this past Sunday, with some other boy scouts, at the church where we meet for co-op. They were having a Veteran's Day service and it was a very sweet way for these boys to show their support and respect for our veterans.
It ended up being only Brandon and Margot's sons, Kyle and Ethan, and their dad, Bill, who is also a leader. I was very surprised that Brandon wanted to carry a flag! He usually shies away from the all-eyes-on-me sort of thing, although I have to say, not so much any more. He's growing up! ~sniff~
Bill very kindly, showed Brandon how to hold the flag (which was very top-heavy because of a lovely eagle ornament on top) and explained where to walk and where to end up. Then he and Ethan had a practice run. Ethan was carrying the Christian flag, Brandon had the American flag. They did great!
Here you can see the flags crossing (Brandon and Ethan are carrying but I couldn't hold my camera up high enough to get the!) and Kyle calling the color guard (I know nothing about any of this so I apologize if I'm saying it wrong!)
When they posted their flags, we said the Pledge of Allegiance and also the pledge to the Christian flag and the Bible and we sang the National Anthem. It was really moving! Brandon was very happy to be a part of it. :)
Thank you Margot and Bill for inviting him and instructing him so well!
