Savage Gardens

That was the name of the display of carnivorous plants at the Conservatory. When I think of meat-eating plants, I always think of the Venus Flytrap, but that's only one! There are many more as we found out :)

We got there in time to see the feeding show. Very informative! We found out that carnivorous plants usually grow where the soil isn't all that good so they get a bit of extra nutrients from the insects in the area like taking a vitamin. They can live without the insects but they are healthier plants during the insect season.

First, we watched the show, then we walked around the Conservatory hunting for the carnivorous plants along the way. They have a pamphlet they give you for a scavenger hunt which really makes you seek them out. Here's a few:

The lady working the feeding table was so sweet and very indulgent of all the little (and big) people hovering over her.

Venus Flytrap. I always pictured it bigger. Maybe I watched too many horror movies ;)
Pitcher Plant. A spider can spin a silk and drop right into the pitcher and steal the insect meal right out of it's "mouth"!
This one was a bit bigger but still I can't imagine it swallowing a person...

Another version of a pitcher plant. I think I need one of these!
Brandon was loving the scavenger hunt!
 My favorite plants ;)
There's so many more pictures to come! We had a great time!
