Thanks for the science lesson! We just spent some time in the Birds of Ohio field guide and on Google to determine who your visitor was. We have concluded that it is a female Northern Harrier ( check out this blog for a quick glimpse - http://panhandlebirds.blogspot.com/2009/03/northern-harrier.html). Apparently she is here for the winter according to the range map.
She's a pretty raptor. Enjoy her visits. Oh yeah, don't let any small animals out. LOL
